Michael C. Schafle, Esq., Pennsylvania mesothelioma lawyer
Michael C. Schafle, Esq. · Philadelphia

Michael Carroll Schafle is a Philadelphia trial lawyer and a founding partner of Green & Schafle, LLC, which he started with Adam Green. He has spent much of his career representing injured people in complex litigation, and his Pennsylvania mesothelioma practice runs through the court where those cases actually live: he is counsel in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas asbestos program.

Families in crisis are told to vet any lawyer before hiring one.

Verify the license first

Michael is admitted in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey, with pro hac vice admissions in federal mass-tort courts nationwide. The Pennsylvania record, including his attestation of professional liability insurance, is public: look up his record at the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

The asbestos work, specifically

Philadelphia has run a dedicated asbestos docket for a long time. Michael is counsel on it, which means Pennsylvania mesothelioma cases are not a sideline handled through a referral network: the exposure investigation, the trust filings, and the litigation happen under his name, in his home court. He has resolved substantial mesothelioma settlements, including significant wrongful-death recoveries and recoveries for laborers exposed to asbestos. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome; details are on the results page with that same disclaimer attached.

Mass-tort practice at the national level

Beyond the asbestos docket, Michael has been named counsel in numerous federal multidistrict litigations, including Xarelto, Zantac, Roundup, 3M earplugs, metal-on-metal hip implants, and IVC filters. MDL work is where defense firms send their most experienced teams. Working against them over a long career is the training a mesothelioma case deserves.

He started on the other side

Michael began his career defending the kinds of claims he now brings. That period shaped how he values cases: he has seen how defendants and insurers actually assess exposure evidence, and he prepares every file for the scrutiny he used to apply to himself.

Recognition

The Best Lawyers in America, Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions (Plaintiffs); Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, including Class Action and Mass Torts recognition, and Super Lawyers Rising Star in earlier years.

Both are peer-reviewed designations by their publishers, not certifications. Pennsylvania does not certify specialists in asbestos litigation, and Michael makes no such claim; his practice is concentrated in mass-tort and asbestos work.

Education and roots

Michael graduated from Temple University Beasley School of Law after earning a B.A. in Finance, magna cum laude, at the Catholic University of America. He is a lifelong resident of the greater Philadelphia area, where he and his wife are raising their daughters. He has served on the alumni board of LaSalle College High School and chairs its scholarship golf outing.

How he works with families

The first conversation is with Michael, not an intake service. He will tell you plainly whether you have a case, what it would require of your family, and what the fee agreement says before you sign anything. If you do not need a lawyer, he will say that too.
